Is an ICTN mandatory for Nigeria?

Yes. An International Cargo Tracking Note is required for containerised cargo destined for Nigeria. The reference must be obtained at the port of loading, before the cargo ships, and endorsed on the Bill of Lading. Without it, your shipment can be held, refused loading, or penalised on arrival.

Customs declaration and valuation.

Nigeria ICTN FAQs

Who obtains the ICTN certificate?
The shipper, exporter or freight forwarder, at the port of loading, before the cargo is loaded. Not the importer at destination.
Which documents are required for ICTN to Nigeria?
Draft Bill of Lading, commercial invoice, freight invoice and export customs declaration.
What happens if cargo ships without one?
The container may be refused loading at origin, or held at the destination port until the declaration is regularised. Penalties are commonly a multiple of the certificate fee, and demurrage accrues daily.
